About Our Rescue Group:

The Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation is a national non-profit organization made up entirely of volunteers. The group dedicates its time and energy to finding homes for homeless dogs. This effort is overseen by the Italian Greyhound Club of America.

We take in Italian Greyhounds that have been abandoned at animal shelters, taken from abusive homes or surrendered to Rescue due to the death or divorce of the former owner. Occasionally, dogs are turned over to Rescue because the owner can no longer keep the dog and the dog was acquired from a source to which it cannot be returned.

Rescue volunteers foster these dogs in their homes, where their health and temperament are evaluated. All dogs are taken for a veterinary check-up. When necessary, vaccinations are updated, the animal is neutered/spayed and his or her teeth are cleaned. Each Italian Greyhound is evaluated so that it can be placed in a home suitable to both the dog and the new owner.

Adoptions will be considered to anyone living in Washington or Oregon.

Come Meet our Pets:

All of our dogs are fostered in private homes. Once a potential adopter is approved, he or she will be given contact information to set up an appointment to visit the home where the dog is fostered.

Our Adoption Process:

Prospective adopters are required to fill out a short application and go through an interview process, including a home check. At the time of placement, the adoptive family is required to sign a simple adoption contract. An adoption fee is collected at the time of placement and is based on age of dog.

The adoption fees are as follows:
Up to 6 months $350
6 Months to 3 Years $325
3 Years to 8 Years $300
Over 8 years $275

These fees are sent to the Italian Greyhound Rescue Fund to offset the cost of medical expenses of the dog being placed, and provide medical care for future rescue dogs.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
