We realize the great need of homeless animals nationwide, but we currently only focus our efforts on the animals in Jessamine County, Kentucky

Friends of Jessamine County Animals, Inc. is a nonprofit federally recognized tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization that was founded in March 2010 by a group of animal lovers. Our Directors, Foster Homes, Officers, and Trustees are all volunteers. We are not a shelter with visiting hours. Our rescue efforts are managed out of our own homes. Expenses are funded through our Membership, adoption fees, and donations. Our mission is to bring about change in the care of animals in Jessamine County, Kentucky by way of education and community awareness. Canine Adoption Fees vary by age*: - Puppy (under 1 year): $200.00 - Adults (1 year and older): $150.00 - Seniors (age varies by breed): $120.00 * Some adoption fees may vary based on sponsorship or other factors. Services included in adoption fee: veterinary exam, spay/neuter, heartworm test (if age appropriate), microchip, current on Distemper/Parvo, Bordatella and rabies vaccination (if age appropriate), fecal tested and de-wormed, current on flea and heartworm preventative. Other services are done as deemed necessary.

The normal adoption fee for cats/kittens is $75 which includes Spay/Neuter, UTD on shots, Feline Leukemia tested, Feline AIDS tested, Flea/Tick treatment and any additional vetting deemed necessary (dental work, medications, etc.)

Our adoption process includes completing an adoption application and waiting for approval. Friends of Jessamine County Animals, Inc. wants to place all of our animals in homes that are best for the pets as well as for the family. We try very hard to make compatible matches to ensure lifetime commitments. We reserve the right to decline applications based on the pet's best interest and needs. Home visits, vet references and landlord approval are required before animals are adopted.

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
