About Our Shelter:

Lowndes County Animal Services is committed to community safety and the prevention of cruelty to animals. Our goal is to protect the public from stray and dangerous animals. We have dedicated ourselves to providing prompt, professional services to the citizens and animals of our community. We are dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals through operating an animal shelter for stray, abandoned, and unwanted animals; by operating an adoption center for desirable pets; by investigating reported cruelty and abuse cases; and by educating the public about responsible animal ownership. The Lowndes County Animal Shelter envisions a time when our community embraces the mutual benefits of the human-animal bond and treats all animals with care and compassion.

Animal Services we provide:

Enforcing Animal Control Ordinances.
Investigating animal abuse and cruelty complaints.
Humanely capturing distressed, nuisance, or dangerous animals.
Sheltering stray and owned pets.
Accept unwanted pets for possible adoption.
Offer healthy pets for adoption.
Humanely euthanizing elderly and ill animals at the owner's request.
Offer Annual Rabies and Microchip Clinics to the Public.
Offer refuge to pets during disaster evacuations, accidents involving the owner and pet, eviction, and while the owner is detained or incarcerated.

Our Adoption Process:

Dog adoptions are $105.00
Cats adoptions are $85.00
Small/Furry & Poultry average adoption fee = $10.00
Reptiles average adoption fee = $35.00
Larger livestock adoption fees are developed a case by case basis.

There is a contract to be signed. There are no special housing requirements.

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
