Dog adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog and you'll have a friend for life! Contact us, or contact another local humane society, animal shelter or SPCA.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties: Twisted Branch Aussie Ranch primarily rescues Australian Shepherds, but also rescues Catahoulas and Australian Cattle Dogs occasionally. We do try to stay within the herding group of dogs within our program, as they will better fit into our existing pack of dogs. Our primary focus is Australian Shepherds due to our experience with the breed and their unique health concerns. Being one of the breeds listed to carry the MDR1 gene, we feel it is important for these dogs to be rescued by an organization educated in the risks of giving the dog a reactive drug. Aussies also have a need to feel a purpose, to have a job or some way to channel their energy and intellect and need to be matched with people who are prepared for an active dog. We have owned Australian Shepherds for well over 20 years, and know that the joy of owning an Aussie makes them worth the extra effort!

We rescue and adopt dogs, but we also try to be a resource for people to get information. If you have questions or issues in canine health or behavior, contact us. We will do our best to either offer assistance, or give you the resources to find assistance. But we believe the key to happy pet ownership is education and training, by the owner as well as the dog. We are happy to assist in any way we can.

Twisted Branch Aussie Ranch
About Our Rescue Group
Twisted Branch Aussie Ranch is a small dog rescue in the beautiful Cedar Creek Lake area of East Texas. Our primary focus is to rescue Australian Shepherds and other herding breed dogs from death row in Texas shelters, rehabilitate them through love and training into adoptable pets, and place them in well-suited forever homes. Not all dogs that end up in animal shelters are strays. Sometimes a very well-mannered, purebred dog will find itself in a shelter after the death of their owner, something no dog should have to face. Sometimes fully trained dogs are surrendered to shelters from their owners who can no longer afford to care for them. Some dogs we rescue have been stray, some for a very long time, and need loving care and rehabilitation to become wonderful adoptive pets. And sadly, some dogs have been abused and dumped. We feel they all need an opportunity for a wonderful life in a forever home.

None of our rescue dogs are kept in kennels and we do not have a shelter, but rather our dogs are living in foster homes as members of our families. We feel that the best way to transition a dog from shelter life and ensure a successful adoption is to fully integrate him with our other dogs and families, show him love and patience and earn his trust, and teach basic obedience commands using positive reinforcement methods. Our dogs all sleep in the house with the family and are treated as members of the family in every way. They are integrated into a well-balanced pack of dogs, both resident and foster, which assist greatly in the rehabilitation of shy or mistreated dogs. They learn to trust, to bond with both other animals and humans, and to enjoy life as a beloved pet. And for this, they will be forever grateful. Rescue dogs are not second-rate dogs; rescue dogs are the BEST choice! Nowhere else can you get the wisdom, heart, and gratitude of a rescued dog.

Come Meet our Pets
We would love for you to come visit us when considering one of our dogs. You will be able to see the dog’s true personality where he feels most comfortable, and see how he relates within a group of dogs. Visits are available Friday through Sunday by appointment. We are at Cedar Creek Lake, approximately 1-1/2 hours southeast of Dallas, TX in a beautifully wooded section of East Texas. Please email us if you are interested in visiting. twistedbranchaussies@gmail.com
Our Adoption Process
When you adopt a rescue dog from us, you are adopting a member of our family into yours. We don’t take this lightly, and neither should you. We have invested a lot of time and effort into these dogs to make them as well-balanced as possible and give them the best opportunity at a successful life, much like you do with children. We want to make sure, as you do, that our adoptions are well thought out and are the best possible match between owner and dog. Since our dogs have been in foster care, you have the benefit of having someone to rely on for information about the dog’s personality and traits. Our rescue dogs will all be spayed or neutered if above 6 months of age before adopted, or will be adopted on a Spay/Neuter contract if underage. They will be vaccinated and microchipped, and current on heartworm preventative. We include optional vaccines for Leptospirosis and Bordatella in our regimen, so that our dogs will be protected in athletic competitions, dog parks, or any other environment where they would come in contact with other dogs. We send your new best friend home with a goody bag of toys and treats, a collar and leash, some training handbooks, and a handmade fleece dog crate bed. We might even include a goody bag for the adopter as well--we do love our dog families.

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
