My name is Tracy. I am a foster home for my local shelter. As hard as it is we are not a no kill shelter. My main focus is Hounds. Although I do foster others as well. After each hunting season we are loaded up with throw away dogs. These sweet wonderful animals are left behind because they do not hunt as well as they used to. We have even found them tied to trees in the woods near death. I have never found better pets they are so loyal that they will wait where the hunters drop them off until they die of starvation waiting for their hunter to pick them up. When I first moved here I noticed two hounds on the side of a busy road one lying down the kind of looking around. I headed to work again the next morning they were in the exact spot. Well after stopping my car for a closer look I realized the that the dog lying down was dead and his friend would not leave his side of the spot they were dropped off at to run deer. That's when I started finding out how horrific some hunters treat the dogs they no longer want.

About Second Chance Ranch Smithfield

Right now I am a one person operation. I don't take food or anything from my local shelter. At this time I have three lovely hounds that could use a forever home. In addition to my fosters their are at any given time at least 15 more beautiful best friends that are in need of rescuing. I surely need help with fosters. I have no problem delivering an adopted pet within a reasonable distance. I am trying to save two older gentlemen right now. They belonged to an older man who recently died. His son brought them to the shelter. They are small and extremely loveable. PLEASE HELP THEM IF YOU CAN. It kills me to see these sweet innocent faces thrown away because of their age. They still have many years to be loved and give love. I have not had a hound yet that has not been housebroken. My family and I take each one at different times camping with us and they are just perfect. They love walks and are great family dogs. Please remember that if you are not in my area and are looking for a wonderful pet to adopt go to Adopt-a-Pet.com or your local shelter. It just feels good.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Smithfield, VA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
