Pets at Our Rescue Group:

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

We partner mainly with high kill shelters in the South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama area. We have approved foster homes in these states where pups are placed for a transition period where they are spayed, neutered and fully vetted prior to their transport up to New Hampshire. We adopt dogs out to prescreened and qualified adoptive homes in all of NH, Southern Maine, VT. Massachusetts and parts of northern New York.

About Our Rescue Group:

Pet Tails Rescue was founded by Maureen Cahill in March 2012. We are a a group of volunteers committed to the rescue of dogs in southern states who are located in high kill shelters. The numbers are staggering. One of the shelters that we save our pups from in Atlanta had over a 60% euthanasia rate – over 3800 pups who were never given a chance at life. This is why we have committed to saving these pups and finding them loving homes.
Pet Tails Rescue is a 501c non-profit corporation. We locate and screen adoptive and foster homes for these pups, arrange for all pups to be vetted and arrange transportation to the new adoptive or foster homes. We believe that every dog deserves a chance at life…every dog has a tale to tell and a story to be told. Our goal is to have their stories unfold in the loving home of their new family. If a story is not told it is forgotten. And no life should ever be forgotten.
Pet Tails Rescue is located in Northwood, NH but we search out families looking for that special pup wherever we can find them. Most all of our adoptive homes have been found through social media and with just a photo or two of the pup in need. Just one photo and someone says “that’s my dog, please bring him home to me”. We are conduits. We believe every animal deserves an opportunity to a happy life.

Our Adoption Process:

Once a prospective adoptive family finds a dog they want to adopt they must complete an adoption questionnaire. All references will be checked and interviews are performed. Home checks may likely be performed. We then arrange to have the dog placed in foster care while he/she is fully vetted. Transport is then arranged up to southern NH. We also have foster families located here in NH. Typically the process takes about 2 weeks from the approval of your application for us to get you new family member home. Adoption fees are $395 for dogs and pups (includes $70 transport fee) and $135 for cats and kittens (includes $40 transport fee)

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
