Those interested in adopting must

-Complete an application (includes any other pets currently in the home plus information on your vet).

-Pay an Adoption Fee that is generally $65.00.

-Most pets are spayed/neutered before leaving our facility.

-In the event they are not, the adopter agrees to spay/neuter within 45 days (if the animal is of age). We work with HOPE Transport of Ft Wayne which will pay/neuter for $60-$70 depending on the sex and size of the animal.

-Agree to ensure the animal has his/her free wellness check through Miami County Vet Clinic within 2 weeks. At that time, the animal will be made current on the rabies vaccination as well.

About City of Peru Animal Care & Control

The City of Peru Animal Control & Care (City PACC) will take care of lost and stray dogs in the City of Peru. While we do not normally take owner surrendered dogs, we will use our resources to help you find a home for your pet.

We will provide a safe environment for the dogs of the City of Peru, until we place them in a forever home!!!

We do not euthanize for length of stay.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
