Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:
Adopters should live within two hours of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is because home visits are part of our adoption process. Since we are all volunteers, it needs to be a reasonable driving distance.About Our Shelter:
Dogs Forever Safe Place provides refuge for homeless dogs, where they receive loving care, free of fear and free of the threat of being euthanized. This is their sanctuary until Dogs Forever places them with a reputable rescue, a no-kill shelter or a forever family. The dogs at Safe Place come from kill shelters where they were at risk of being euthanized and from Iowa counties that have no animal shelter.
Come Meet our Pets:
Dogs Forever Safe Place is located at 3800 Wilson Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We are in the building behind Hills Bank. Use the north/side entrance. Our hours are 11-3 Saturday and by appointment. Our Adoption Process:
Adopters are required to complete an adoption form. They need to provide either a vet reference or two personal references. Once reference checks are complete, we arrange for a home visit.Adoption fees are on a sliding scale; adopters choose the amount that is right for them. Our adoption fees for senior dogs (7 years and older) are on a sliding scale of $80 to $125; fees for dogs 1-6 years are on a sliding scale of $100-$150; fees for dogs under 1 year of age are on a sliding scale of $125-$175.
If you are 65 years or older, the adoption fee is waived when you adopt a senior dog. All Dogs Forever dogs have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and tested for heartworm and Lyme disease. They are on heartworm preventative.
