Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue is located in Suffolk
County, on Long Island, NY, and will serve most of
Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn, Bronx
and Queens. We have also had adopters from new Jersey and Connecticut, and are open to other areas as well.

About Our Rescue Group:

Chin Friends Chinchilla Rescue was started because the exotic pet trade in our country is busier than ever before. With the availability of these animals, many people impulse-purchase them, not realizing the commitment they are making. It gets overwhelming for some, and others didnt quite realize the financial commitment or time commitment. Some people just lose interest, or their lifestyle changes and the pet does not fit in anymore. There are not many resources for people with exotic pets, and we aim to provide that for chinchilla owners.

We also realize great pet owners are made- not born that way, and each one of our adopters will have access to help, suggestions and any support they may need in the future.

Come Meet our Pets:

All of our chinchillas are in private foster home, so we do not allow the general public to see the chinchillas without first filling out the adoption application. Once an adopter is approved, we will be happy to set up a private meeting so you can meet any chinchillas you are interested in adopting.

Our Adoption Process:

Unlike some rescues, we do not require a home inspection. We do require that you are prepared to agree to some basic expectations, including providing a proper cage, veterinary care from an exotic specialist, air conditioning, and a clean, quiet, smoke-free environment.

There is an adoption application available for download on our web site, and there is a $100 adoption fee per chinchilla. After filling out an application, one of our volunteers will speak with you for more information.

Our Adopted Pets:

We have helped lots of pets connect with loving and caring owners. Check out our adopted pets list!

Why should you adopt?

small animals can make wonderful pets, and rather than buying a small animal for sale or finding a small animal breeder, adopting a small animal from an animal shelter or rescue organization is the perfect way to add a small animal to your family. Keep in mind, there is a lot you will need to know when you provide a home for a small animal. You will need to learn what to feed them, how much exercise or attention your small animal needs, and many other important things about how to house and care for a small animal. There are different types of small animals including Chinchilla, Degu, Ferret, Gerbil, Guinea Pig, Hamster, Hedgehog, Mouse, Prairie Dog, Rat, Skunk, and Sugar Glider.
