Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

We are an Arkansas based rescue that serves most of the northeastern United States by utilizing commercial dog transporters to get pets to their new homes. Our transporters deliver pets in locations convenient to most cities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Northern Virginia, DC, New Jersey, New York and all of New England. We send dogs east three to four times monthly.

About Our Rescue Group:

Go East, Young Dog was organized last year as a potential solution to the problem of too many dogs and not enough good homes in our rural Arkansas communities. While we are working on public education regarding responsible pet ownership, too may pet owners here lack the consciousness and/or resources to have their pets spayed or neutered, and there seems no end to the number of unwanted pets that show up at our door
We have taken over the animal control facility of the city of Berryville, where in the past dogs and cats brought in by animal control were routinely euthanized after 5 days. We take in, care for and adopt out all the city's excess animals now, as well as many from neighboring towns and the surrounding rural area. There is a Humane Society in the county but their shelter is always at capacity and the wait to get an animal in there can be months, and most are turned away for lack of space. Through our efforts, and those of others working in dog rescue, we have virtually eliminated euthanasia in the county.
Our kennel houses from 30 - 45 dogs and we have others in our care in foster homes. We work closely with Diane Ferguson of Unconditional Love Pet Rescue, who brokers most of our adoptions. In our first 8 months we have adopted out more than 200 dogs.
Go East, Young Dog is an IRS recognized non-profit that can accept tax deductible donations. Adoption fees cover most standard vet costs, transportation and the brokers stipend. We are dependent on fund raising to cover additional medical costs we frequently incur, and the costs of running the kennel and improving the facility to make it more comfortable for the dogs while they are in our care. Donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Come Meet our Pets:

Best way to see our pets is online. Our facility can be visited by appointment. We do not have the staff to maintain regular visitor hours. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed.

Our Adoption Process:

Potential adopters must return to us a completed application. Following application, a phone interview is conducted and vet references are checked. If all checks out and it seems like a good match, a simple adoption contract is executed which specifies that the dog be returned to our care if things don't work out well. We have foster families throughout the northeast to take in the dog in such cases.
Adoption fees range from $350 to $500, depending on the dog, though lower fees are negotiated for more difficult to adopt dogs. Our rescue is largely dependent on adoption fees to cover costs and keep the rescue operating. All dogs adopted are healthy, parasite free, spay/neutered and current on vaccinations.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Humane America Animal Foundation, dba Adopt-a-Pet.com, is a non-profit, tax-deductible 501(c)(3) adoption advertising charity. Our mission (and passion) is to help get homeless pets out of the shelters and into loving homes. Let us know what you think! Suggestion & Comment Box
