Areas Misfit Animal Rescue serves

All of our adoptable dogs and cats were taken from death row at high-kill Florida shelters.

We mainly adopt in person at our weekend adoption events but potential adopters are free to contact us about visiting the ranch to meet and potentially adopt a pet. Let us know what pet you would like to see and we can arrange a meeting.

We primarily serve the Central Florida area and our ranch is located in the Groveland/Mascotte area. Adoption events typically take place in Eustis, Leesburg, and Clermont.

Additional adoption info

Our requirements include being able to provide the animal a good, safe home and a loving family environment. We adopt out to families who believe in spaying and neutering their animals and will be hesitant if that is not the case. We reserve the right to ask for vet references or do a home check if we feel it necessary.

On the topic of felines, we believe farm life is one of the most fulfilling lives a cat can have and we have no problem adopting our cats out as barn cats OR indoor-only cats, assuming the farm has enough space.

We have a 2-week "foster-to-adopt" trial period built into our contract so that we can ensure that the animal fits in with its new home.

About Misfit Animal Rescue

We are a family rescue who mostly houses animals at our ranch and in a few foster homes.

Our ranch houses 15 horses, hundreds of dairy goats, a pig, a donkey, many cats, 8 dogs of our own, and all of the rescue animals. Almost all dogs are medium-large breeds as those are the breeds most likely to make it to death row. All of our dogs are saved right before euthanization at the shelter.

We began rescuing when we went to the shelter to adopt a new dog to watch our goats and ended up coming out with two. The shelter was going to put one of them to sleep in the morning and we couldn't let them do it. We took them both and from then on we've rescued and rehomed over 150 dogs and 100+ cats. We saw the need and we wanted to help.

We have been on the local news and in the newspapers multiple times in reference to what we do and how we're fighting every day for the animals, specifically those at Lake County Animal Services in Tavares, FL. We don't just rescue them, we're fighting for better living conditions and an affordable spay/neuter program so that some day we may not have to have a rescue at all and we won't have to watch sweet, loving animals be killed through no fault of their own. We attend local BCC meetings and have been in contact with commissioners for the last 9 months in hopes that at some point, they'll make necessary changes to fix this problem. Until then, we'll keep doing what we do.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
