Our shelter is physically located in Tool, Texas, which is about 52 mi. SE of Dallas, Texas. If you are interested in meeting any of our adoptable animals, please fill out an application and we will contact you and arrange a meet and greet in the DFW area.

About Our Shelter:

HSCCL is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization serving the animals and people of Kaufman and Henderson counties. We rescue and care for more than 3,000 animals each year.

HSCCL receives no government funding and is not affiliated with any national or other humane organizations. We depend solely on the generosity of individual and corporate supporters to fund our programs and services.

Come Meet our Pets:

Until further notice we will not be holding our offsite adoption event at the Petsmart in Plano at Parker and 75. However, if you are interested in meeting any of our adoptable pets, please fill out an application at and we will arrange a meet and greet. If you do not hear from us within 48 hours please email or call 903-432-3422.

Our Adoption Process:

If you are interested in meeting an animal, please begin by filling out our adoption application which can be found at Adoption fees vary. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, age appropriate shots, rabies, worming, and a microchip.

Although a home visit is not always required, we do reserve the right to conduct a home visit prior to being approved for adoption.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
