Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

Open Arms Rescue of Georgia is located in central Dekalb County in Tucker, GA which is a suburb of Atlanta. We focus our rescue efforts on Dekalb County Animal Control, finder surrender, and owner surrender.

About Our Rescue Group:

Open Arms Rescue was formerly known as The Park Pet Haven and has been working to save dogs lives since 2009. We are dedicated to the cause of getting as many dogs as we possibly can out of the Dekalb County Animal Control shelter and into homes. We are also dedicated to the cause of closing all Gas euthanasia chambers in the United States.

Come Meet our Pets:

Our dogs are available for visitation at:
This is not a walk through shelter. We help you identify a few dogs that meet your request, then we bring them up to meet you. You may play with them and take them for a walk.
We also have Adoption Events, call 770-414-7275 first to confirm we are there.

Our Adoption Process:

The goal of our Adoption Process is to find the best match of dog and home that we possibly can. We do this by working closely with adopters to identify dogs that we feel would fill their wish list. The first step is to have the potential adopter complete our Adoption Application. That is reviewed by committee, and if approved we move on to the next step which is to have the adopter meet the dog if they have not already. There may be a home visit at this point in time to be sure our requirements for the dog are met. If everyone agrees that this is a match we allow the dog to go home for a foster-to-adopt period of 3-7 days. This gives the adopter time to be sure it is a good fit. Then the Adoption Contract is signed and the Adoption Fee of $225 is paid.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
