Stepping Stone Bully Rescue's adoption process

Additional adoption info

• All of our dogs are in separate foster homes; therefore it is not possible to come visit them all at once.
• You must be 21 years of age to adopt
• An adoption application must first be completed on our website before we will contact you about the possible adoption of any dog. If the adoption application is not completed in its entirety it will not be approved and no contact will be made.
• All general questions will be responded to via email
• Please understand that all our representatives are volunteers and may not be able to get in touch with you immediately. Please allow up to five days for us to get in contact with you. Emails and phone calls will only slow down the adoption process. To speed up the adoption process please contact your Veterinarian and give them permission to release information to us.
o All dogs and cats in the home must be spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations and have annual visits at their Veterinarian.

• After initial approval of your application a representative will contact you for a phone interview.
• After the phone interview we will schedule a home visit. Please note it is not always possible to bring the dog with on a home visit.
o A home visit is required of all adoptions.
o During the home visit all people residing at the residence must be present.
o You must allow the representative into all areas of the property. This includes all bedrooms, the basement and any outdoor buildings. If there are any areas our representative are not allowed access to the application will be denied.
• After the home visit and application have been approved, we will make an appointment for you to meet the dog you would like to adopt. If all goes well we will then complete the adoption process.
• We DO NOT transport our dogs. Our animals are local to the Saint Louis metro area only adoptions, unless otherwise noted.
o In circumstances that we have to travel more than 50 miles to perform a home visit a fee may be assessed

Everything we do is in the best interest of our dogs; they are our number one priority. There will be no exceptions to our adoption guidelines. We will only adopt a dog to a home that is a good fit for that dog. So please understand we may not approve your application for one dog, but may approve it for another.
We reserve the right to deny any application at any point in the adoption process.

The adoption fees for each dog can vary and is based on the accumulated expenses (Vet bills, shelter fees, pull fees) and a nominal adoption fee to cover our administrative expenses.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
