We serve Illinois, Indiana, and Eastern Missouri

About Our Rescue Group:

GABR rescues basset hounds from Illinois, Indiana, and Eastern Missouri that find themselves in bad situations. Once the basset is in our possession, we provide needed vet care. Then the basset goes to one of our wonderful foster homes. After the foster home evaluates the dog, our adoption coordinators help the basset find a good home.

GABR also helps other various breed rescues, cat rescues and humane societies, as well as many groups outside the animal organizations.

Come Meet our Pets:

Our center of activity is in Dwight, IL, where we hold the yearly Illinois Bash and Waddle in September. This is a two day event consisting of an off-leash basset hound picnic in a fenced in area followed by a basset hound parade with hundreds of basset hounds. We also have a yearly auction in April.

We hold adoption events throughout the year in the three states that we serve in addition to participating in numerous canine community and basset hound social events.

Our Adoption Process:

Adoption fees range from $100 to $250. Rescued basset hounds are placed in foster homes, from which the adoptions occur. All dogs are neutered/spayed, current on vaccinations, tested for heartworm and on heart worm preventative before adoption. The adopter is expected to update the dog's vaccinaations yearly and keep them on monthly heartworm preventative year round. A contract is signed agreeing to return the dog to GABR if the adoption is unsuccessful. Changes of address must be reported to GABR. The basset may not be permitted to roam off leash while outside.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
