About Robeson County Humane Society

Welcome to the Robeson County Humane Society's No-Kill Animal Shelter.
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping cats and dogs. We were founded to find loving homes for adoptable animals, and promote responsible pet ownership throughout the county with an emphasis on spaying and neutering.
The Robeson County Humane Society Animal Shelter's volunteers and staff provide care for adoptable dogs and cats that live there until appropriate forever homes are found for them.
The Society also welcomes gifts of time, talent, and treasure. There are many volunteer opportunities both at the shelter and with other Humane Society projects. You can also get up to date on some of our past and present events and some of the "wishlist projects" at our shelter by downloading & browsing our quarterly newsletter.

What We are all about

Our primary goal is to rescue and find appropriate placement for homeless animals. Adoptable and treatable animals that demonstrate no signs of aggression will remain at our facility until the right home is found for them. We believe in educating our community about responsible pet ownership, and the humane treatment of animals. We also practice progressive spay/neuter and adoption programs. Adoption applications are not necessarily approved on a first come, first serve basis. Our goal is to find the right family for the right animal, and the right animal for the right family. Therefore, we reserve the right to approve applications that appear to be the best fit for both the adopter and the adoptee.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Lumberton, NC.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
