Come Meet our Pets:

Our dogs live in foster homes. An appointment to view any dog can easily be set up after the required adoption questioner has been filled out. We do not mean to be intrusive but filling out the GSRHD adoption question can also help you with some things you may not have thought of. The adoption questioner can be found at www.gsrhd.com under the forms tab. You can also view our adoption agreement there.

Our Adoption Process:

All German Shepherd Dogs adopted out by (GSRHD) will be up to date on all vaccinations and have been spayed or neutered (in the case of puppies, they may not have their entire set of shots) due to age requirement .
German Shepherd Rescue of the High Desert, Inc. desire that you have a GSD that can enjoy a lifetime of love with you, (GSRHD) will take special measure to ensure that the German Shepherd Dog (GSD) you choose is the best match for you and your family. We have set up the following procedures for anyone wishing to adopt one of our animals:
Fill out our adoption questioner. This will help us understand more about you and your lifestyle. This can be completed online and then printed out and scanned and sent via email or sent to us by US Mail.
Have an interview with a (GSRHD) representative. The application is reviewed by GSRHD and the applicant is contacted via telephone.
Allow a Home Check. Upon reviewing and approving an application, a home visit is set up. One or two GSRHD members will come to your home to meet your family, other pets, and generally evaluate where the potential adopted dog will be living to ensure that this is a good home for the dog.
If you rent a home you will need to provide written proof from the legal owner or management company stating that a dog is allowed on the premises before an adoption of one of our dogs will be allowed.
Sign an Adoption Contract with (GSRHD) after the home check is completed and approved, an appointment will be made to sign GSRHD adoption contract. Please note our Adoption Agreement & Contract is a legal document, therefore we will only adopt to adults, and all the adults in the household must agree to getting the dog.
Please make an adoption donation to (GSRHD). Some of what your adoption fee will cover, is the care of the animal from the time it is rescued by GSRHD until the time we place in the new forever home. This can include, but is not limited to, vaccinations, heartworm test, spay or neuter, worming and also costs for food while the dog was in foster care. All of our members are strictly volunteer and 100% of the adoption fee will go back to care for these wonderful dogs.
our adoption fee is $165

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
