Pets at Our Shelter:

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

PHS serves Mt Vernon, New Harmony, Poseyville and all of Posey County. We also welcome adoptions from outside of Posey County.

About Our Shelter:

Posey Humane is a small shelter serving Posey County and the surrounding areas. The shelter rehomes dogs, cats and small animals. We are the only facility in Posey County that accepts cats. The shelter is also in the process of establishing a Trap, Neuter and Return program to help address the problem of feral cats. PHS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that receives no funding from any local, state or national organizations. It is a limited access shelter. PHS does not euthanize for space. Instead, the organization feels all animals deserve a second chance at a loving forever home. Volunteers and foster care homes are always appreciated and help further our mission to save more lives. Please visit our website at www.poseyhumane.org to see how you can make a difference by donating and volunteering.

We also have a special adoption event at the Westside Pet Food Center Store in Evansville, IN. This is from 10 - 3 pm on the first and third Saturday of each month. The Pet Food Center Store is located at the corner of Franklin St. and St. Joe Ave. in Evansville, IN. Our Adoption Process:

All adopters are asked to complete an adoption application. This application will ask for personal references and if you have previously had animals, there will be a veterinarian reference requested. If there are existing animals in the home, they must be current on any age appropriate vaccinations. Adoption fees vary according to the type of animal being adopted. Fees can be seen at our website www.poseyhumane.org. Once an application has been approved all adoption fees must be paid before the animal goes to their new home.

Our Adopted Pets:

We have helped lots of pets connect with loving and caring owners. Check out our adopted pets list!

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
