Additional adoption info

Adoption Radius - Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and select counties of West Virginia.

Two placement programs:
- Adoption Program = All horses available are under the age of 20 years and have no long-term medical needs. Fees range from $100 for companion only to $1,200 for well-trained horses with unlimited potential.
- SOS Program = All horses over the age of 20 years or those with long-term medical needs. Includes both companion only and rideable horses. SOS fee is $35.

Adoption Process:
1. Contact DEFHR describing your experience and what you're looking for, location, where you'd keep the horse, and whether or not you've owned a horse before.
2. Discuss with DEFHR horses that would best suit you, as we want to make a cohesive and safe match between horse and adopter.
3. Companion only horses require two adoption appointments. Rideable horses require three adoption appointments (1 ground, 2 under saddle).
4. Adoption Application is completed and submitted by adopter if all appointments go well.
5. References checked.
6. Farm inspection.
7. If all goes well and checks out, adoption paperwork is signed and placement is finalized.
8. DEFHR follows up on all horses placed through the Adoption Program for a minimum of two years before signing ownership over to the adopter. Horses placed through the SOS Program are permanently owned by DEFHR and yearly visits to check on the horse are done for the remainder of the horse's life.

About Days End Farm Horse Rescue

We assist local animal control agencies by taking in horses in need of critical care rehabilitation. We also assist with court proceedings by documenting all care that went into rehabilitating each horse and serving as expert witnesses in court. Once custody is gained and horses are fully rehabilitated and evaluated, they are made available for adoption. Our goal is to help horses make a fresh start and find new, loving homes where they will be well cared for and loved for the rest of their lives.

We host several different educational classes and opportunities on our farm to raise awareness about horse neglect and what goes into properly caring for a horse. These opportunities include our Legacy Program for children during the summer months, our Internship Program (residential and non-residential), Equine Cruelty Investigators classes, Large Animal Rescue classes, Volunteer Continuing Education classes, and many other clinics and demos, both on and off-site.

We have hired staff to ensure that our organization continues to run smoothly, however we are extremely dependent on our volunteers. We have a wide variety of needs that volunteers can assist us with, including daily horse care, barn chores, farm maintenance, office duties, farm inspections, etc.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Woodbine, MD.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
