Executive Director, Adopt-a-Pet.com
Growing
up in Chicago, Illinois, and then Orange County, California, Abbie Moore always
felt emotionally connected to animals, even becoming a vegetarian at the tender
age of 8. Now, as the Executive Director of Adopt-a-Pet.com, Abbie revels
in the opportunity to bring joy to animals and the people who adopt them.
After spending the first several years of her career working in the entertainment
industry (where, among other things, she worked alongside Sharon Osborne on the
production of the documentary film chronicling the heavy metal rock festival Ozzfest),
Abbie seized the opportunity of a labor strike-related lull in employment to change
courses and pursue her true passion. She moved into the world of animal welfare,
first working in administration at Pooch Heaven, a large animal rescue organization
in Los Angeles. It was there that Abbie realized she could combine her marketing
skills with her inside understanding of the animal welfare world to help homeless
pets across the country.
In 2004, Abbie was hired by Adopt-a-Pet.com, and in her current capacity has
led many new initiatives, including "Twitter a Critter" a celebrity-oriented
social networking campaign designed to spread the word about adoptable pets. She
has also spearheaded the non-profit organization's extensive work with professional
athletes who have a passion for helping stray pets.
Abbie lives in Los Angeles with her husband, four-year-old daughter, and their two rescued
pets: Norm, a mixed-breed dog, and Sebastian, her adorable feline.
