St. Louis Blues star David Backes and White Sox pitcher (and St. Louis resident) Mark Buehrle have a message for the citizens of St. Louis: adopt a shelter pet. Mark and Jamie Buehrle and David and Kelly Backes have partnered with Adopt-a-Pet.com, North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption web service, for a public service campaign launching today in the greater St. Louis area.
Adopt-a-Pet.com, North America’s largest non-profit homeless pet-adoption web service, and Purina® Veterinary Diets® today announced the kick-off of an initiative to help offset veterinary costs shouldered by animal shelters and rescue organizations. The Adopt-a-Pet.com Veterinary Care Fund, made possible by a donation from Purina Veterinary Diets®, will provide twenty-five grants, totaling $50,000, to U.S. and Canadian animal welfare organizations. The application process opens today, and one grant of $2,000 will be awarded each week for the next 25 weeks.
“The Veterinary Care Fund web page http://adoptapet.com/VeterinaryHelp will display the weekly grant recipients, along with photos and stories of how the grants are helping to create happy endings for specific shelter pets.
“Sick and injured pets are just as deserving of a loving home as healthy ones, but the financial constraints that all shelters and rescue groups struggle with makes it especially challenging to provide the care those pets need to get healthy enough to be adopted,” says Adopt-a-Pet.com director of Shelter Outreach Jennifer Warner Jacobsen. “Thanks to the $50,000 donation from our friends at Purina Veterinary Diets, our Veterinary Care Fund can truly make a difference in the lives of homeless pets, and, we hope, for the wonderful staff and volunteers who care for them.”
The Adopt-a-Pet.com Veterinary Care Fund was made possible by Purina Veterinary Diets®’s “Fighting Pet Obesity” Facebook Campaign. Purina Veterinary Diets® donated $1.00 for each person who clicked “Like” on their Facebook campaign page, Fighting Pet Obesity (http://www.facebook.com/FightingPetObesity), and thanks to public support and Purina’s generosity, the maximum of $50,000 was donated
