| In November, a precious dog named LADY OINK for her unbelievably sweet disposition and cute little snorting sound when she's licking you, ended up at the Brooklyn kill-shelter with a snapped front leg. We do not know what horrible circumstances she came from, if she had been hit by a car or beaten, but after seeing specialists it was determined she had to have the leg amputated! She took it like a champ and then went straight into a foster home that had 2 other dogs. When LADY OINK met their 2 dogs she walked right up to them and licked them on the face. Incredible! But then a day later LADY OINK started to scream out in agony. She had to go back to the specialists to be hospitalized, assessed and then put through a few weeks of tests to figure out how she could be helped. Since she couldn't sit up and tell us why she was so stressed, we still don't know the exact cause (perhaps phantom pain) but she is finally on a cocktail of nerve pain and mild anxiety meds to help soothe her. Her crying out dimished almost to nothing, only a slight whimper every once in a while, and her spirits rose again. Everyone who meets her, adores her. Sadly though, when she was ready to go home, she had nowhere to go! So we ended up boarding her at a local vet's office. Again she sat in a cage! In early January, a lovely new foster home came along for our sweet angel! They actually have a blind dog and again, Lady is, well, quite the lady. She is being weaned off her meds slowly with medical guidance. And now we feel she is finally ready to be considered for ADOPTION! We can guarantee anyone who adopts her that she will love them to pieces. Could you be the one to give her a FUREVER HOME? LADY OINK is a sweet sweet AmStaff mix (she looks and acts like part-manatee!) who loves people and other dogs. She is a 4 year old true angel of a dog with honey-colored eyes. As you can see in the pics below, she is so loving! LADY OINK can get around very well on her three legs - we think she was without use of the leg which was amputated for some time. It would be best for her if we could find her a home with an adopter who has an elevator building or lives on the ground floor . She was on the euthanization list before we rescued her and is going to be interviewed in a feature for the ACC, so she is already a star!
