| Our prince, Manny McGee, is one of the mushiest dogs ever to be rescued. He is also quite the handful! Although he’s no longer a puppy, he was never given the structure or discipline he needed and most recently has been at a doggie training camp learning manners. Our rescue, Mutts & Mitts, is seeking an experienced FOSTER or PERMANENT HOME for him, with someone who could continue his training and is truly interested in rescuing the kind of dog that exemplifies a “dog in dire need” . His new owner must be confident as an ALFA leader. And his best home would be one where he is not stressed by the unpredictability of city-life, a home where he has a backyard and a strong-hearted master. He is not a pack dog so when it comes to other dogs, he is mostly disinterested. And since he needs to focus on structure and discipline, we are only considering a home where he would be the ONLY pet. Manny is an approximately 1.5 year old, 70 lb, Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Pit mix. Some have thought he may have some Pointer and perhaps Dogue de Bordeaux in him as well. Healthy and sweet, Manny McGee has the saddest eyes and is desperately longing for human companionship and LEADERSHIP. He gets lost in too much stimulation and then finds himself in a whirlwind of temptation—not walking well on a leash, trying to dominate the person he is with, and sometimes even challenging other dogs. But when he is calm and at ease, he has that uncanny “rescue dog” ability to make you feel so appreciated. Manny needs a home with someone who is active and would enjoy taking him along for outdoor fun or exercise. His breed likes to “work”, with his instinct to fetch and hunt he needs someone to LEAD him towards such ventures. A few other things about Manny: When we first rescued Manny he had a terrible skin condition (which was NOT contagious) and his fur was missing patches everywhere. Now his coat is so soft and he looks gorgeous, gathering compliments everywhere he goes! Manny is also crate trained. As for cats, Manny shows too much interest in them and would not be great in a home with cats. Manny allows himself to be pet anywhere and takes treats easily from the hand. He allows himself to be handled while he eats and shows no signs of guarding his food. In general, Manny wants to be a 'good ole dog', but he must have a firm, yet patient new foster or master with some experience and skills in teaching boundaries. And most importantly, he should not experience any random social interactions until he respects his leader. Please consider FOSTERING or ADOPTING this handsome guy and help us give him a full and happy life. We honestly envy whoever ends up with Manny McGee! The work will be worth it in the end!
