| On 10/6/08, kids found 8 year old SUSIE tied to a pole. We can assume her owner left her there, abandoned and scared. We know she once had an owner because in August 2008 she came in as a stray to the ACC and was returned to her owner. But when Mutts & Mitts pulled her out of the shelter, the owner was not to be found. Susie is a spayed female, tan and white pit mix. She is a sweet and yet frightened gal. You can see right away that she has been traumatized because she looks up at you as if she has no idea what to expect. But after a few moments she is like your shadow, and she has the cutest little waddle when she walks! Susie was on the euthanasia list at the city shelter but we could not bear to see her put down so first we moved her to a boarding facility! Then we found a great foster family for her, but as time went on, she became too agitated by all of the activity in their home. They had visitors often and they had other dogs in the extended family coming and going as well. Susie is an old gal and the constant change unsettled her. Unfortunately we had to move her back into boarding. This was our last option and we hate that she is living there since it is already difficult to find someone to take an older dog, much less one stowed away in boarding where she can barely meet new people. Could you foster her and give her an opportunity to find that family or person who will love her for the rest of her days? Susie needs to go to a home with a warm female foster/adoptive mom. She is afraid of men for the most part...we can only assume that something cruel must have been done to her by a man before she ended up at the shelter for her to be so guarded around them. It would be preferable if she were the only dog but she could also live with someone trained to deal with a fearful, fragile dog like Susie. In Susie’s last foster home, she developed a strong bond with the family’s niece, a 10 year old. Everywhere the niece went, so did Susie. Her preferable home would be one where there will NOT be a lot of people coming and going. She is an older dog who would do best in a low key environment. She is a sweet dog, capable of love and loyalty, who really deserves to live out her days in peace.
