About Our Rescue Group:
Wanda's Waifs is an off-shoot of a breed specific rescue (Southern California Fox Terrier Rescue) that grew out of the need to find homes for other pets that came to our attention. We primarily deal with dogs, although we have a foster home that can accomidate cats and we do have a cat available from time to time. Many of our dogs are purebreds rescued from high kill shelters at the last moment, because we simply couldn't leave them there to die as soon as we walked out the door. We also have some wonderful mixed breed dogs that are equally deserving of a good life as part of a warm and loving family.

We network with other rescuers and provide web space so their dogs and cats might be seen by individuals looking for the right addition to their family.

All animals are spayed/neutered prior to placement, current on vaccines and micro chipped

Come Meet Our Pets:
All visits to meet our adoptable pets are by appointment only. You must first have an application on file and be approved as an adoptive home.

Many of the available dogs and the infrequent cats are in foster homes and we need to arrange for the pet to be available for a visit outside of work/school hours. We do not hold public viewings or adoptions.

Our Adoption Process:
The first step in adopting from Wanda's Waifs is filling out an adoption application so that we might best assist your family in choosing an appropriate pet for your lifestyle. We do ask for references, simply because the pets we have available have already lost one home and we want to make as sure as we can that the home we place them in will be theirs for the rest of their lives.

Once we have received your application and reviewed it, a telephone interview is conducted to help us decide if we have available a pet that is suitable for your situation. Many times we will have more than one pet available that are posibilities for you to consider. A home visit, may be part of the process. This is a visit by a rescue volunteer to check on the security of fences and windows; possible hazards, like poisionous plants; and other things that could pose a danger to the well-being of the adoptive pet.

If you are renting, we do require a written statement from your landlord giving permission for you to have a pet of the type you are looking at. Some landlords have a size limit on pets others will impose a limit on numbers and we want to know that their limits are being respected.

We do place all our pets on a contract that specifies that they will be returned if for any reason the adopter is not able to keep them and we will take them back no matter how long ago we placed them.

There is an adoption fee required which helps to defray the medical expenses as well as the cost of feeding and properly caring for the animals. The amount will vary from pet to pet but generally ranges between $150 and $400.

Some dogs may have a training requirement as part of their adoption, and we will help you find a trainer in your area if this is the case.

We encourage responsible pet ownership and want you to take the time you need to make the right choice of dog or cat to add to your family.

We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties:
Southern California from Bakersfield (Kern County) to San Diego area, south-western NV (Las Vegas area) and into western Arizona.
