My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 08/10/14: Hi!! Maddie checking in!! I've been a little quiet lately but Thought I better check in. I've been having a little trouble with allergies & my knees. My back knees have grade 4 luxating patellas. The top bone is curved one way & the lower one the other way so surgery is not an option. Both of my kneecaps sit out of the groove where they should be. So to make up for it I walk with my knees slightly bent. I have a little trouble with stairs so I would need a home with very few stairs. I am a really good quiet girl & prefer a good nap to going for a walk or playing. I think a nap is calling me now!! Foster Mom just fed us & washed all our blankets so I will talk to you soon!!

Update 06/02/14: Miss Maddie has been doing well. She is a very sweet girl. She was skin & bones when we first got her & weighed only 4.7 lbs. Since having all of her badly infected teeth removed & the fistula from one of her canines had made a hole all the way through to her sinuses. That has healed & since her spay she now weighs 7.7 lbs. We may have to put her on a diet. Since gaining the weight she is a happy girl but her back knees are permanently bent because of a probable genetic defect. Her little short legs have a little trouble getting her up the stairs. She would do best in a home with adults that are home most of the time. She does not like a crate & would prefer to be by your side all of the time. A fenced yard would be best for Maddie also. Maddie is 6-8 yrs. old & weighs 7.7 lbs. Her favorite activity is napping by your side & she loves a good squeaky toy.

Update 2/6/14: Miss Madeline is wishing everyone a Happy Valentines Day. Madeline is doing good & is not really enjoying all of the cold & snow. She is 6yrs old & now weighs 7 lbs. Since being spayed & having all of her rotten teeth removed she is enjoying life. She was very thin & you could feel all of her ribs, spine, & hip bones. She had all of her teeth removed. They were very infected & she still has a fistula into the nasal cavity because one of her teeth was very infected. She is healing well & enjoys soft food and she has filled out nicely & loves her person very much. She attaches very quickly to people & follows her FM everywhere. Madeline would love to find someone who is retired or works from home and she needs a fenced yard & would probably do best with an all adult home. Madeline likes other dogs but I'm not sure about cats and she is not a barker but is pretty calm & laid back. She loves the life of a pampered lap dog!! Maddie would like to thank Bridget & Chelsea for finding her & helping her get to UYR so she can have the life she has always dreamed about!!

Update 12/10/13: Madeline 5-7 yrs old & 4.9 lbs. Maddie has been spayed & had a much needed dental. She lost all of her teeth. Probably due to lack of care & a very poor diet. Her teeth were very infected at the gums & the bone. she had a fistula by one of the upper canines that were removed. Maddie will soon be recovered & looking for her dream home. She hopes to find an all adult home with someone that is retired or works from home. A fenced yard is a must. Please no small children as she is very small & timid. Maddie is a real sweetheart & would love to have someone to cuddle with on the cold snowy winter nights. No more wandering as a stray for this sweet girl!!

Initial Bio 12-01-13: Madeline (Maddie) Is 6-7 years old and weighs 4.6 lbs. She was found as a stray in Arthur,IL. Arthur has many Amish puppy mills so it is thought that she came from on of them. Maddie was lucky; she was found by some wonderful caring people and kept safe warm and fed until she could come to UYR. She is a real sweetheart who would do best in an all adult home with no small children that live there or visit. She needs someone who is home most of the time to give her the love and attention she has missed out on in life. She will need to be spayed and have a much needed dental. She is quite a snuggler and loves to follow her foster mom everywhere. She will soon be looking for her furever home. If you are interested in Maddie please fill out an application.
