Lucy Lou's Story...
Lucy is an adorable Basset Hound. She’s 2 years and 8 months old. Lucy’s family had to relinquish her due to unforeseen circumstances, but she has been loved and well taken care of. Her family says that she is a bit shy at first until she gets to know someone; however some people she connects with immediately. She loves to go for rides in the car and loves her leash. She will wait for a leash to be put on her before she will come in the house from outside. She drools when she is nervous and wants attention and love. She's afraid of guns, so anyone that is a hunter probably won't be a good fit. She's housebroken and is in a crate when she is left home. She needs some training, but other than that she is an exceptional dog!!! If this sweetie sounds like a good match for you, please fill out an application today!

****Her adoption fee is $295.****

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $25 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lucy Lou, a Kalamazoo Basset Hound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Basset Hound for sale in Kalamazoo, or seeking a Basset Hound dog from a breeder in Kalamazoo.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Kalamazoo already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Kalamazoo breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Basset Hound breeders who help with Basset Hound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Kalamazoo paves the way for another one to be saved.
