My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Sasha is a gorgous sheltie beagle mix (best guess) with a wonderful medium length golden brown wavy coat with black highlights. Her nickname could easily be “Pretty Girl.” She is 33 pounds and 12-14 months old so she still has some puppy in her. Since arriving at her foster home, she has become a good friend to the resident Irish terrier. The two dogs thoroughly enjoy typical dog play, complete with many play bows, tooth display, and general horsing around. Sasha enjoys the walks through the woods and is absolutely sure some small critter lives under the snow covered tall grass mounds. But so far no amount of nose sniffing has brought forth a fur-covered creature. Sasha is house trained, has good indoor manners, goes into her crate very willingly at bed time, and enjoys snoozing at foster mom’s feet in the evening. Sasha is a loving companion and would probably do best in a calm home with an older child or adults rather than a rambunctious one with lots of kids. She is sometimes a little timid or shy, but would love a home with another dog playmate and a family to call her own. Sasha is with a 501c3 rescue. Her $300 adoption fee covers her spay, heartworm test and pill, immunizations, flea/tick prevention, worming and a HomeAgain microchip. .

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.

• Homeowners: Required

• Status of adopter: Adult 30-55

• Previous dog owning experience: Required

• Age of children: Calm older kids, 12+

• Another dog in the home: Playful dog VERY STRONGLY PREFERERED

• Cat(s) in the home: NOT SAFE WITH CATS

• Fenced yard: PHYSICAL FENCE REQUIRED

• Time alone on work days: Sasha needs someone home much of the time although with another playful dog she can be without her humans for longer periods of time. No long workdays for this dog though.
