Bramwell RI's Story...
All our cats/dogs/rabbits are in NYC unless otherwise noted. Many of us will be at Petco E86/Lex on Sundays 12.30-5!* Please come! We are always looking for vols/fosters and especially Purrmanent homes:) We do out of state adoptions if you can come and get the pet and if we can gain assurance of the home through a visit or other means. In the NYC area we generally deliver at the time of adoption.

All of your adopted cats and dogs are eligible for the PetFirst adoption policy.   As a Petfinder member, our organization is automatically included as an option on the new adopter enrollment form (see it online at https://pets.petfirsthealthcare.com/petfinder/enroll.aspx).  All you have to do is make sure our adopters KNOW about the opportunity – so they can easily activate a plan to protect their new adoptee by calling or going online to www.petfirst.com/petfinder to activate their new pet policy.

Meet Bramwell! An adorable, 12 pound male poodle estimated to be about 8 years young. He was rescued from a high kill shelter where he was picked up as a stray. He is extremely happy to be out of that place and is currently being fostered in Rhode Island. He’s sweet, gentle, lively and just a total love bug overall! He loves to be with his humans whether it be outside exploring in the yard, going for a walk or curling up next to you for some couch time. He absolutely LOVES to go for walks, and gets along great with other dogs and cats.

Bramwell just had his teeth cleaned so is in great shape overall and ready for his forever home! His hearing seems to be a bit compromised and his eyes a bit cloudy but neither impede him from loving life, getting around or interacting at all. His level of comfort around younger children is unknown (he is currently living with no kids) so a home with older teens or adults only would probably be best. He would also prefer his humans be home more often than not – he is a poodle after all and they do love attention and to be with their people. His ideal family would continue to provide him with daily structure, daily exercise/walks to keep him in great physical shape, and of course - lots of love!

So if Bramwell sounds like he may be the perfect addition for your family, please reach out to us to learn more about him.

Please fill out an application http://zanisfurryfriends.org/applications.html and return to dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org Many of us (cats/dogs) will be at Petco on E86/Lex on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at info@zanisfurryfriends.org. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.

Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!

If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us cats@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to Petco or other weekend event. Our weekend locations are: Sunday Petco E86th/Lex 12.30-5, some Saturdays at the same Petco same hours, and alternating Saturdays at Petstop on Columbus between W87/88th 12-5pm. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Please fill out an application and email to: For Cats: cats@zanisfurryfriends.org For Dogs: dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org For Rabbits: nyc.acc.rabbits@gmail.com. Please visit our website www.zanisfurryfriends.org.

About Zani's Furry Friends

About Our Rescue Group...

Zani's Furry Friends is an organization committed to rescuing companion animals from New York City's shelters where, unfortunately, they are at risk for euthanasia due to overcrowding. Each dog or cat rescued from a shelter opens a cage and gives an opportunity to another pet to await a chance for adoption or rescue, thereby potentially saving yet another life.

Although we are not always sure of the pedigree or background of each animal, those we place are generally well socialized family pets who came to the shelter through no fault of their own. We rescue kittens and puppies as well as adult animals who deserve another chance for a loving home. We do not have a shelter or boarding facility, but instead rely upon foster homes to shelter and nurture our furry friends until a loving forever home is found. Our dogs and cats are all up to date with vaccines, and spayed or neutered. Dogs are microchipped and heartworm negative and cats have tested negative for FIV (if old enough) and FeLV. Young kittens must be adopted in pairs or to homes with other cat(s) to ensure the companionship and socialization they require. Adolescent or adult cats may be adopted solo, if appropriate.

Adopters are asked to complete an application and spend time with their prospective companion animals. All adopters are carefully screened via vet and personal references, and a home visit is conducted. A donation in an amount agreeable to all parties is requested to help defray our expenses (medical, transport, training, pet supplies, etc). We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and are always in need of donations. That donation can be in the form of healthy treats, quality pet food, crates, blankets, new leashes and collars, toys, gift certificates to pet supply stores, kitty litter, etc. - all are gratefully accepted!

Please look at our list of adoptables, and if you don't find one that seems right for you, or if you see one that is already flagged as adopted, please contact us at ggmcs@juno.com to let us know what you are looking for; perhaps we can help find the perfect match. We continually rescue new animals and will keep in mind specific requests from good homes.

Zani's Furry Friends is a volunteer organization which receives no funding or sponsorship. We depend on the generosity of those who are willing to donate time, supplies and money--and we are always in need of additional foster homes for either dogs or cats so that we may help free more animals from a dark fate at the shelter. Unfortunately our city's shelters face a continual space problem, and dozens of healthy, adoptable animals lose the race of time daily. If you are interested in opening your home and heart to foster one or more of our rescues, making a donation, or assisting with the myriad of details and chores that is involved in saving these precious lives, please contact us at info@zanisfurryfriends.org for more information. We look forward to working with you.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Zani's furry friends are mostly from the NYC shelter system. Our foster network is located in the NYC area.

Our dogs and cats are wonderful animals who can be placed with families w/ other pets. We foster most of our own adoptees and most are good w/ children and other dogs and cats.

Applicants are screened via an application which can be downloaded from www.zanisfurryfriends.org (hyperlink to applicatoins on home page), then returned to us via email. Potential adopters must come meet the dog/cat at the foster home. All our adoptable furry friends are fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and either feline combo tested or heartworm tested depending on whether the adoptee is a cat or a dog, respectively.

Our Adoption Process...

Contact must first be made either via email or telephone. Then there is a follow up of whichever means of contact were not used (we like to speak to the person as well as cyberspeak to her/him). There is an adoption application (http://zanisfurryfriends.org hyperlink on home page which needs to be completed and emailed back to us) from which references are carefully checked, including vet refs, a Home Visit requirement, an interview, and fees are in the form of a donation agreeable to all parties involved.
