My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Speedy is a Jack Russell and Chihuahua mix, maybe some Italian Greyhound as well.

Speedy lived with his two younger brothers when one day, his owners moved...without them. They were alone in their apartment for a number of days and became very malnourished. Speedy was skin and bones when the police came to rescue him. On top of that, Speedy was picked on by his brothers. You know how sibling rivalry can go.

When Speedy got to the Humane Society of New York, he took it upon himself to become more independent and branch out. He boosted his confidence and now he roams around the adoption floor looking for treats and human companionship. He’s made a couple of dog and cat friends along the way and we are proud of him for trusting us to help him.

We called him Speedy because he has these little feet of fury, hitting the pavement at any chance he gets. He would love nothing more than a walking buddy, a radio to listen to, then a lap to lay on. He is very funny, with little personality traits that make him completely unique. Also, he knows how to rock a bowtie! (This portrait was taken by Richard Phibbs.)

The Humane Society of New York was founded in 1904 to protect the city's working horses. Today, its clinic and Vladimir Horowitz/Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center looks after the health and emotional well-being of every adoption animal.

HSNY is a non-kill shelter. Every animal is micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and they offer FREE vet care for the first 3 weeks after adoption.
