Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Skittles! Skittles spent some time in a cold cell of a high kill rural shelter before our volunteers spotted her and rescued her. We know nothing of her past except she is a gorgeous, happy little girl with a lot of love to give!
Skittles is approximately 1-2 years old, female, and we believe she is a border collie mix, possibly with lab. Her coat is a very soft, luscious white with black spots, and she has the typical feathered tail of a border collie. She also has great energy and is very playful! Skilttles gets along great with other dogs and loves to romp and play! She is not so great with her foster kitty brother, as she tends to want to chase him and barks at him. But she has shown no aggression toward him at all. Her foster mom writes, "She does chase her feline foster brother but hasn’t harmed him – just isn’t quite sure what he is so she just barks at him! She has a great time with her foster brother, Quincy, running around exploring all the little nooks and crannies of her foster mom’s yard. There is still snow on the ground and she is greatly enjoying her first experience with the snow! " Skittles is a little protective of her food with other dogs (not with humans, her foster mom can put her hand in her bowl no problem while she is eating) but we think once she realizes she will never again go hungry this will resolve with patience. She is not at all aggressive, just gives other dogs a warning growl if they approach while she is eating. Other than that, she adores her foster brother and her foster mom's two dogs of her own - all ages and sizes!
Skittles will do best in an active family that intends to allow her to participate in a lot of family activities. True to the border collie nature, she likes to have something to do. She also loves exercise and would really love a fenced yard to run and play in! She will make a fabulous jogging or hiking partner too as she is excellent on a leash! Skittles is beginning to learn basic house manners and she rides well in a car. She is crate trained and has made huge improvements with housebreaking. We expect her to be fully housebroken by the time she is adopted, as she is learning very quickly and is super eager to please!
Skittles has been spayed, dewormed, heartworm tested (negative) and is on Heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention. Skilttles has had a basic veterinary exam and appears to be in great health. She is full grown and weighs about 38 pounds. She could stand to put on a few more pounds as she was very skinny when she came to us, but she will not be a large dog.
