My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rookie is a sweet, loving and cuddly, two-year-old, 43-pound, female brindle and white pit bull terrier looking for a loving guardian. Rookie has some of the most beautiful musculature I’ve ever seen on a dog. While she’s not a dog-park dog, she does have select dog friends, and she does play in some doggie play groups.

Rookie is a hockey fan and was recently spotted snuggling with her hero Chicago Blackhawks player Patrick Sharp (as seen in the photo!)

This muscle girl is wonderfully well-behaved in the home. She is also beautifully trained. She knows the commands “take a bow,” “sit,” and “down.” She’s great with people of all ages including children and has worked with incarcerated youth. Rookie loves to give kisses and will do anything for favorite treat … string cheese. Rookie is great on leash, crate-trained, and housebroken. She loves balls and loves to play fetch.

Poor Rookie landed at Chicago Animal Care and Control in June of 2013 with her five puppies. Her human was arrested on drug and gun charges. She and her pups were confiscated and brought to the shelter. After months in a cage, her human lost custody and she was able to go into rescue. Rookie is very healthy, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, spayed, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. She may do best as the only dog in her home, and with someone willing to continue her training and give her exercise. She comes with a lifetime of complimentary training through the rescue group.

To meet and possibly adopt Rookie, please contact her foster mom Sia at athanasia.proutsos@gmail.com or 773-576-4611. Her adoption fee of $200 benefits the rescued pets of Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control.
