My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Rufus! I am an approximately two year old Hound mix of a tidy medium size (about 40 lbs) with lots of color. I get along with dogs of all sizes, as well as children. I think cats are very interesting and try to get a closer look, but I don't dislike them.....I am a lover boy! I am very good about not going potty in the house and will be excited every time you want to take me outside. I love being outside! I walk on a leash fairly well, but when I have a chance to be off leash I am happiest. If you are outdoorsy, well so am I, and I will not range far from you. I have a moderate amount of energy so I need to be exercised twice a day, but once you settle down inside I am content to sleep on my bed or play with my toys. While you are at work or sleeping, I am content to be in my crate and wait for you to play with me. I am a little shy at first and unsure of new people and new dogs, particularly if I feel restrained; once I form a bond with someone, though, I am extremely loyal and loving. What I need from an owner is someone who has experience with dogs and will be able to tell when I am getting stressed or anxious. They need to be patient with me and allow me to bond with them in my own time. I don't mind if you have another dog...indeed if he likes to play we will be great buddies....although I may annoy a senior dog who doesn't want to play as I am too eager to do so. If there is a cat in the household, it would be best if he were a dog-savvy kitty. While I am good with kids, a household that is quieter with fewer people coming and going would make me feel most comfortable. If you feel as though you and your household fit this description, please come meet me! I have been waiting to meet you and would love to find my forever home.
