My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is our sweet, special little rescue dog, adoptable Matt. This sweet fella has been through a lot, and has quite a funny little personality, despite his rough start in life. Matt came to us, as he was found by an kind office, as he was wandering in Detroit one cold afternoon. This scared, skinny, and cold little guy was picked up and transported to our rescue in need of major help. Matt's fur was so matted and tangled in foreign debris that the poor guy could not stand up properly, wobbled when he tried to walk, and was in so much pain that he was afraid to be touched at the time.

Sweet little Matt need to be given pain medication and put under anesthesia in order to be relaxed enough, so that a team of people were able to delicately work for over two hours to help free his very skinny body of the more than 2 inches of tangled fur that was limiting his range of motion of his hind legs, mouth, and personal areas.

After we were able to free his body from the severely matted fur, Dr. Matt evaluated our fur-less friend to make sure he was healthy and didn't have any other medical needs that needed to be addressed. We were very lucky to see another trusted veterinary expert, Dr. Joswick. Matt's symptoms of lack of coordination, high stepping with his front paws, and lack of balance when turning sharply led to a diagnosis of Cerebellar Hypoplasia. In short, Matt's cerebellum did not fully develop as a pup, possibly due to poor nutrition in utero, and as such he has a permanently underdeveloped cerebellum which controls coordination. Dr. Joswick was wonderful and spent quite a bit of time explaining this condition, indicating that it isn't something that worsens with age, and that in Matt's case he can live a fairly normal and very happy life with a family that appreciates his antics and sweet quirks.

Matt has since begun to trust his foster parents and wags his little tail when he see's them, tries to stand up on his back legs when it's feeding time, and will paw gently for affection when you stop scratching his floppy ears. Matt is friendly towards other mellow and gentle dogs but shouldn't be in a home with small kids, or large super playful dogs that might accidentally knock him over. He is doing wonderfully with potty training, trots slowly off into his fosters fenced yard to check out the sights and smells, and LOVES to be gently pet and snuggled. He would be a great companion for a gentle and quiet family/single person who understands how truly special and wonderful this little fella is.

Matt is sincerely a funny little guy, and when you see him raise a paw to “sense” his environment is very unique, and even kind of charming. He can be a goofball, and we look forward to seeing him grown up and learn what love is like from a compassionate home.

Matt's adoption fee is $250.00 and includes DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, De-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food.

You can fill out a simple online adoption application at www.nbsar.org and we will start processing your application right away! We do require that persons interested in meeting me apply online and be approved as an adopter first so please visit our website and submit your application today!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on it's vaccinations and heartworm preventative as well as spayed/neutered unless there is a documented medical reason on file with your veterinarian. Dogs must be current on DHLPP, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative, cats must be current on Distemper, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative at the time of application.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and will fill out an adoption application right away, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family. Would you please help me by sharing my picture and information on your Facebook page, or e-mail to your friends and family members? I'm a great pup and I really deserve a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
