My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What is your name?
Sullivan aka “Sully”

How old are you?
I am about 2.5 years old

What do you look like?
I am a 60-pound red pit bull with beautiful amber eyes.

What kind of personality do you have?
I love all people! I am very sweet and respectful to small children as well. I am very laid-back in the house. I am completely house trained and I don’t chew on anything or get into mischief in my foster home. I am also kennel trained. I am working on my leash training, I try to pull on the leash and I tend to be a bit too interested in squirrels or other dogs on leash. Some say I am the best companion a family could ever have! I also am learning how to meet dogs appropriately, my excitement sometimes gets the best of me.

Describe your perfect day.
I love to cuddle on the couch! I also love to play chase in the backyard with my new best dog friend Mia.

What is your favorite toy?
My foster mom gives me a frozen peanut butter Kong when I go in my kennel. I LOVE Kongs! I also really like frozen beef marrow-bones.

Do you know any tricks?
I know how to sit. I am learning stay, lay-down and climb as well.

What scares you?
Shiny-slick white tile floors! I don’t know why but I think it is hard to walk on those!

Do you like cats?
I have not met any cats in person, but due to my desire to chase squirrels and other small animals, I would do best in a non-cat home.

Do you have any doggie best friends?
Yes, I LOVE my foster sister, Mia, she is a large and bossy female dog. I love to play with puppies and female dogs. Sometimes I don’t get along with male dogs, I am still learning to play appropriately.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Snuggled in the corner of the big couch with my fleece blanket!

How is your health?
I am improving every day. I was treated very badly in my old home. At some point in my past life I suffered trauma to my hind leg. Later, I was shot in the throat and left to die on the side of the road by a very bad man. A good Samaritan lady saw me and immediately called 911, Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Derrick Martin and City of Sullivan Animal Control Officer Jim Bogert picked me up and rushed me to Sullivan Veterinary Hospital and they saved my life. My throat is completely healed. I also had to have surgery on my hind leg, but it is getting better each day and I am able to run and play freely now!

How long have you lived in your foster home?
I have been in my foster home for 3 weeks now.

Who do you live with in your foster home?
I share a beautiful home with my foster parents, Jessi and Mike, their 16 year-old daughter, Jasmine, their 1-year-old daughter, Ava and their dog female pit bull/American Bulldog mix Mia. My whole family is awesome.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
I hang out in my kennel with my Kong in the morning, then in the afternoon my Grandma lets me out to go potty and I get to hang on the couch.

Where do you sleep?
I love to sleep on the couch with a blanket!

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that my foster family is so understanding and dedicated to meeting my needs. They give me attention, a regular schedule, teach me new things play with me. I need to have boundaries set for me, they are good about doing that and then rewarding me for making good choices.

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
My past is very sad. I don’t like to talk about it because I want to focus on my new GOOD life. If you want to learn more about my past, there is a news article written about me here: http://www.sullivanjournal.com/features/article_2b2972ae-6905-11e3-8d3b-0019bb30f31a.html

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they spend time in our homes. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your family and you are interested in offering me a forever home, please do not hesitate to fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
