My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there. My name is Newt. I am about 1 year old and I weigh about 45 lbs.
I was picked up by the pound as a stray from the Lisbon/Salem area with my buddy Nixon (Yellow Lab). It was freezing cold and snowing. Nobody knew where we lived and it was suspected that we were dumped out like garbage on the side of the road. My buddy Nixon was easily caught and put in a kennel by the folks who'd found us, but I was more uncertain and ran away from everyone. I was still loose when the dog warden came out, but she knew just what to do!... She tied Nixon up in the kennel and left the door open, and when I went in she shut the door behind me and I was captured!  I warmed right up to everyone as soon as I knew they were nice!
I am a great boy here at the pound. I love people and I seem to get along well with other dogs. I am also fine with cattle, as the people who found me had cattle that I was around without any issue.
I do need a little bit of work on learning how to walk a bit better on a leash. Clearly, I had never been on a leash before coming in to the pound, but I am doing better and improving daily. I will just need a little bit more guidance and training in this department.
It is believed that we were probably kept as "outside dogs" so we will probably need some house training, though, so far neither one of us tends to "mark our territory" inside the office.
Due to my breed mix, the pound suggest I go to a herding breed savvy home.
If you're looking for a great boy to add to your family, please consider adopting me

I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer.

I AM SCHEDULED TO BE EUTHANIZED ON : WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15TH. IF MY EUTHANASIA DATE AND TIME ARE ABLE TO BE EXTENDED IT WILL BE. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS AS I AM NOT IN URGENT NEED OF A HOME BECAUSE I AM. THIS IS DETERMINED ON A DAY BY DAY BASIS AS THE POUND'S SPACE IS VERY LIMITED.
*UPDATE* NEWT HAS RECEIVED A FULL ($110) PAY-IT-FORWARD SPONSORSHIP TO GO TO ANY APPROVED RESCUE! THIS SPONSORSHIP COMES FROM BOC WATER HYDRAULICS, INC., WHICH HAS MADE A VERY GENEROUS DONATION TO SPONSOR 5 DOGS!

MY ADOPTION FEE IS $110 CASH, WHICH COVERS MY NEUTER SURGERY (WHICH MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO ME LEAVING THE SHELTER), MY PARVO/DISTEMPER VACCINE, RABIES VACCINE, DEWORMING AND MY CURRENT OHIO DOG LICENSE WHICH WILL BE HONORED THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO.
