My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bradley : 2 year old Male Neutered Chocolate Lab 80 Pounds
(Bradley was neutered 2 weeks ago.)

Hi My name is Bradley and I can't figure out what has happened to me over the last month or so. Some good things and some not so good things. I was wandering the streets in Novato looking for my owner and was almost hit by a car. (Not good) This very nice lady stopped and let me in her car - which I love to ride in by the way and I will just lay down or look out the window. (Good) She let me in her car and I was so excited to be going somewhere but then all of a sudden I realized I was going to doggie jail! The doggie jail was a nice one, Marin Humane Society, but I did not like it and they felt like I could not be adopted out as I would bark when anyone came by. (Not good) All I was trying to do is make my voice heard, as in some of the doggie jails you never leave. I had more balls to chase and more hugs to give to not be let out! They listed me as rescue only and asked a nice rescue lady to come and meet me. I was so excited for her to come but then this professional dog trainer from Guide Dogs came to meet me and take me out on a walk. (Good) I do have to admit I was a bit out of control at first but I was so excited to get out and play and run! I heard the trainer telling the shelter that he could foster me and I would be an easy dog for Lab Rescue to place with structure and exercise. (Good) The humane society thought I had a lot of ball drive so before I went to Lab Rescue I went to a guy's home to be evaluated to be a drug sniffing dog. (I passed everything with flying colors except I would take a break from searching for the ball to take a drink of water or sniff a few things.) (Not good) I went back to the shelter with kennel cough so I had to stay there a bit longer before I could go to Lab Rescue. (Not good) I am now in a the home with the professional trainer and I just love being with him. (Good) He gives me regular walks, gives me the training and leadership I crave, let's me play with his other dogs and play ball. Everything is structured and I do love this. I have been in the foster home since 12/26 but I look to my trainer / leader to check in with him and see what he wants me to do. Even though I have been here a short time I already know sit and down with hand signals. I walk with a correction collar and I am very easy to walk. I go into my crate when asked and do not whine or bark. (I know a good thing when I find it!) I have no food issues and I am not possessive over my toys. I can play ball for hours and I will jump up to get my toy but will stop when asked. I will bring it back each time and drop it at your feet. I need to be in a home that will get me out for regular exercise and a home that will continue my training. I heard the trainer tell the person from Lab Rescue what a great, easy dog I was. (Good) I ride in the car well, not so sure about cats but when I am out on a walk I pass everything and do not pay attention to the other animals. I am great with other dogs but since I have recently been neutered I will hump things. (I understand this is not a good thing with the trainer but until the hormones are gone I may do this on occasion. I had a surgery two weeks ago to remove some things and it will take a little while to get everything out of my system.) I am very healthy, microchipped, heartworm negative and current on my shots. Bradley is located in Petaluma.

If you have the time for this sweet boy please call rescue rep Liz at 415-613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
