Easy-going Emmie
Not only am I “easy-going Emmie,” I’m “lucky-girl Emmie,” since CEBR rescued me from a horrible life in a puppy mill.
I’m a tiny little nugget weighing in at about 40 pounds. I think my adorably square head makes up about half of that weight, and my big, loving heart is the other half! I am three and a half years old; I was lucky to have only had one litter of pups. I haven’t been able to share this with my foster mom but she thinks, based on my behavior, that I spent some time out of the puppy mill crates. I know how to walk on a leash, eat out of a bowl, and navigate stairs pretty well. I’m perfectly crate trained but also very well behaved if left out of the crate.
I love, love, love human contact and will follow you as you do chores, work on the computer, or just about anything. I am learning how to play with toys (I love my Nylobone); I’m also very good and snuggling. I tip my big ol’ head sometimes when I’m listening to humans; I’m so happy to be living the good life.
I’m a funny combination of curious and a little bit scared (but I’m so brave!). When I’m feeling scared, I do a great “pancake” impersonation and sometimes still “slink” towards new things, but if you go slow and quiet, I will trust you. I have already blossomed so much!
I have a foster bulldog sister who is really old and sometimes grumpy and I’m so patient with her. I also have foster cat siblings and they think I’m cool; we play together sometimes. Since I’m so easy-going I’m pretty well-behaved and don’t get into too much trouble. There is this pan of kitty litter that seems really fascinating to me, but when my foster mom says “no” I feel really bad and stop nosing around.
I’m so much healthier than when I was rescued; I came in with a urinary tract infection and upper respiratory infection. I had surgery to fix my entropion (my lower eyelashes have irritated my eyes for years making my eyes cloudy and my sight a little less-than-perfect). I’ve been treated for hookworms (many puppy mills dogs have worms—just took some meds for that!). And like many puppy mill dogs, my teeth were in bad shape. I’ve had ten teeth removed as well as a dental abscess that is all better. Because of my bad teeth, my tongue sometimes hangs out slightly, only adding to my cuteness. I have a slightly luxating patella (left rear knee) but it hasn’t caused me any trouble. I am spayed and up-to-date on my shots.
All in all, I’m certainly not a “glamour girl”—I would love to be a part of a family who loves me for the funny little girl I am. I am not a dominant dog so I would do well with other pet siblings as long as they went slow with me. I am so very grateful to CEBR for taking a chance on me; I want to “pay it forward” by being the best bulldog I can be.
NOTE FROM THE HUMANS
Our adoption criteria for Emmie are as follows:
- CEBR Adoption Radius Only.
- To prevent her from eating her kibble too quickly (and then regurgitating it)--give kibble in three small "courses" instead of one big scoop.
- Her tail, nose folds, and ears are in good shape but need regular cleaning.
- She is exhibiting puppy-like behavior – she’s a bit of a jumper and “noses” into things (like kitty litter!) but she responds to “no.”
- Housebreaking is going well; she is "getting it"; I have puppy pads out for her foster sister that she uses sometimes but she’s great at going outside.
When lifting her into the car or into the bathtub (or anytime, really), she “pancakes” and flattens out. She doesn’t fight you; she just doesn’t help you.
