Max's Story...
Max is a 7 year old male Setter mix. He was traveling with his family as they moved to a new location when they encountered car trouble in Austin. The family decided to surrender Max before continuing their move. Max is housetrained, good with dogs and kids. He can get a little too excited and jumpy with other dogs sometime, so the dog interaction might depend on how the other dog reacts to Max’s occasional over-exuberance. Otherwise, Max is a very friendly and happy middle-aged guy. We have no idea how he would do with cats and no way of finding that out. He is about 65 pounds and has a thick coat of wavy fur. Max is neutered and up to date with all vaccinations. His adoption fee is $95. We utilize a short adoption application form to assess compatibility between dogs and their prospective homes. This form is a simple one-sided Microsoft Word document and it can be e-mailed to you upon request. If you would like to receive the form via e-mail, or if you have any other questions, please send us an e-mail message.

Our Shelter is open to the public for animal viewing on Sundays from 2PM to 4PM and on Tuesdays from 4:30PM to 6PM. The Shelter building is located at 101 22nd Street SE in Austin, Minnesota. This is at the farthest east point of Oakland Avenue East in Austin, just to the east of Charter Communications.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Max, a Austin Gordon Setter/Golden Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Gordon Setter/Golden Retriever for sale in Austin, or seeking a Gordon Setter/Golden Retriever dog from a breeder in Austin.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Austin already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Austin breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Gordon Setter/Golden Retriever breeders who help with Gordon Setter/Golden Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Austin paves the way for another one to be saved.
