My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

OSCAR AKA "OSKIE" : 1 year 8 months YELLOW MALE 90 Pounds
(Pictures do not do him justice. He is a beautiful Lab!)

Oscar has been a well loved family member but the father is moving back to India and is the main caretaker of Oscar. The family works full time and has two small children and knows it is best to find Oscar a new home. A home that has the time for a young active dog. Oscar is a big goofy lab who just loves everyone and everything! He has been with his current family since he was 8 weeks of age. They have done a great job with Oscar and he knows many commands but he also needs continued training as he is still a puppy! They have taken him to a training program where he was the star student and the trainer asked Oscar back to the class to show for an example. He knows sit, heel, shake, down and will walk well on a correction collar. He loves to play with other dogs and he loves to play fetch. He has been well socialized his entire life and is one of these dogs that does not have a dominant bone in his body. We are not sure about cats but he does not seem too interested in chasing birds. The father takes Oscar on two walks a day. The first walk is around 5 miles and the second walk is around 2 miles. As you can see it is a commitment to owning an active breed. The family does not allow Oscar in the home as they do not want their hardwood floors scratched so they spend a lot of time in the back yard with Oscar and if they are not with Oscar he is crated in the garage. We want Oscar to be an inside dog and this would happen easily as he is use to being crated. You would crate Oscar at night and would not give him any freedom for the first two weeks. Oscar is a very smart dog and picks things up quickly and just wants to please his leader. He is awesome with little kids and is very gentle. He does not jump up to greet you but he will put his paws out to touch you and he will give you kisses. He has grown up with two small kids in the family and just loves kids. He loves to go for car rides and will settle down for the ride. He is not possessive of his toys or his food and you can take anything from him. He will take treats gently from your hand but he does love food! Oscar is a dog if left alone and not exercised he will chew on things as puppies will do! (Some people think that Oscar may not still be a puppy at his age but he is now a big puppy.) If Oscar is left alone in the backyard he will chew on the sprinklers and he did have to have a surgery to remove some blockage from ingesting a plastic cup. Other than the one surgery Oscar is in excellent health. He is neutered, up to date on his shots, heartworm negative, takes regular preventive medication, microchipped and has the rattle snake vaccine. He is located in San Ramon.

If you are interested in learning more about this beautiful goofy boy, please call Rescue Rep. Liz at (415) 613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
