About Adirondack Save-A-Stray

About Our Shelter...

We are a small, Non profit, 501(c)3 No-kill shelter located in upstate New York. The shelter was started in 1984 from a small store front. We now have our facility on 6 acres in a house reserved just for the homeless animals we care for. We strive to keep the animals in as healthy and low stress an environment as possible. We take in local strays and also do puppy and dog rescure from various kill shelters around the US and Puerto Rico.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are open 7 days a week. Sun and Mon 11:30AM to 4:00PM. Tues through Saturday, 11:30AM to 6:00PM. . We also provide a low cost clinic for shots and testing, every other Friday between 1:00PM and 5:00PM. Various Rabies and Heartworm Clinics on weekends throughout the year. We have a Pet food pantry available to low income residents (Call for information).

We are pleased to be able to invite you to see some of our adoptable pets on the Very Best Pet Network Board at Walmart in Saratoga and Queensbury

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption fee ranges between $175-$295 for puppies, which includes money towards the spay/neuter, first shots, first 2 wormings, an herbal bath, your first month of heartworm or flea control, and some other puppy gifts as well. You must be over 21 to adopt. Do you rent or own your home? If you own, great!! If not, please bring a letter from your landlord or a copy of your lease stating that you can have a dog and a number to verify that once you are here. Will it be an inside or outside dog? Do you have any other pets at home? If so, are they spayed/neutered? If not, do you believe in spaying/neutering?

The application and all of the paperwork is done here at the shelter. No appointment is needed, just come on in.

We are open Sunday and Monday from 11am-4pm and Tuesday through Saturday from 11am-6pm. We recommend that you be at the shelter about an hour before we close, as there is approx. 25 minutes worth of paperwork once you have picked your puppy. The puppy may go home the same day.
