My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lindsey is a true beauty! Black as night with a shiny, satin coat. She thinks she is a lap dog, is a big cuddler and adores being around people. She is very athletic and loves to run and play. She is very much like a purebred Labrador in appearance and personality. She is a young girl approximately 1 - 2 years old and currently weighs 40 lbs.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Lindsey's energy is moderate-high. She does seem have some puppy energy so she is young. She needs a walk every day, loves running and playing at the fenced in parks and has lots of energy for play wrestling with her foster "brother". She would be a great jogging companion or would need regular visits to the dog park for running and playing with friends. She settles down nicely at night and when we are just hanging out watching TV, she will cuddle up for pets and belly rubs.

Lindsey is a true people dog! She happily greets any human she meets, male or female, and bonded very quickly to us. She is amazing with kids! Very gentle with the 3 and 5 year olds she met and played fetch with. Would be a great dog for the whole family! She made instant friends with her foster brother, our male husky-border collie mix. She is an easy-going girl that does not try to be the alpha dog. We are unsure of how she would be with cats, but based on her submissive and gentle nature we think she would be ok. However she does like to chase squirrels. She barks at dogs we encounter outside, but just wants to play and make friends.

She never messes in the house while we are out for several hours at work. We are careful to hide the garbage can and keep things out of her reach while we are gone, because she will sometimes tear up paper, or tissue boxes. This is likely due to her anxiety with us leaving, because she never tries to do anything like that while we are home. She is quiet while we are at home with her, but she will bark at people she sees outside. She also barks in response to dogs in our neighbourhood that are outside barking, but is getting better at listening to us when we tell her to "leave it". She is not a constant barker.

Lindsey has not tried to counter surf, get into anything, or chew any of our belongings while we are at home. When we go out it is a different story as there is a chance she will try to get into things, but we just make sure to tidy up and put things out of her reach before we leave. Kaya will passively beg when we are eating. She sits and stares at the person eating. We are working on teaching her that she needs to leave people alone when they are eating.

She knows her name (we call her Kaya) and to come when called, will sit when you tell her to, and is learning "off". She responds appropriately when we tell her "no" and is learning to "wait". She is a very smart girl and eager to please her humans, so training comes easily to her, especially when food is involved! She sits patiently and looks at you to put her halti collar on when she knows it's time for a walk. She walks very nicely with the halti collar, but pulls a bit if being walked on a regular collar. She was afraid of the crate so we just decided not to use one. She knows to do her business outside.

Lindsey is a loving, cuddly, loyal, smart, happy dog that brings a smile to everyone's face she meets. She shows her affection for people with kisses and nuzzles, and is a joy to have in our home!

She is a very adaptable girl and would be happy in probably any home as long as she has people that will love and take care of her. She loves her foster brother and would do very well with another dog in the family. She would need a family that would take her for daily walks and get out to the dog park regularly for a good run and socialization with other dogs. She is a loyal girl who listens well to what people tell her, and aims to please in return for love and affection. With more training she could learn a lot more commands and would need the mental stimulation as she is very smart.

If you would like to make this wonderful girl part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
