If you are looking for a super affectionate total cuddle bug,
Phoenix is your girl!

Phoenix came to MARR after the humane association rescued her from the bitter cold.  She and her doggie friends were abandoned by their owner outside without proper shelter or water.  The night she was rescued, she was hypothermic, dehydrated, disorientated, and walked like she was drunk.   Her ribs were visible with no fat covering.   Her spine and pelvic bones were quite prominent, and she has a very thin waist weighing in at 66 pounds!  She also had a dry dirty and dull hair coat but the sweetest personality!

The humane association immediately began treating her and by the next day she was remarkably better.  They gave her a bath and found out she has a soft shiny hair coat.  Her examination did not reveal any major health issues other than a cataract in her right eye and moderate tartar on her teeth.  It’s possible she has some arthritis but she gets along well in her foster home.  They also drew blood to make sure she didn’t have any health issues, and her blood panels came back completely normal!

She appears to have been a house dog as she has nice house manners and is potty trained.  She also will go in her kennel readily simple by saying “Phoenix kennel” or even just pointing to the kennel.  She knows all the basic commands (sit, stay, down, come) and I am learning she knows a few others as well like shake.   She is smart and is able to figure out puzzle toys right off the bat.

Phoenix is incredibly sweet and affectionate.  She likes to cuddle and lean on you while getting petted.  She is very people orientated and enjoyed attention from everyone she has met so far.  She is very friendly and outgoing but nice and mellow.  She does not jump up on people, just leans in for some loving.  Phoenix just wants to be a part of the family and will not be happy if she is left alone too much.  She would make a wonderful gentle therapy dog or just a great companion for anyone!

06-27-14 Update from Phoenix's foster Mom

Phoenix is an abolute delight!  She is so easy to care for and so well behaved.  She had no problem learning our schedule,  knows our routines, and learns house rules quickly.  She is incredibly calm in the house but like any dog, has spurts of energy when she likes to play with her toys or play fetch.  She also enjoys playing fetch out in the yard and going for short casual walks.

Phoenix is the kind of dog that you can talk to in full sentences and she understands and listens to what you tell her to do.  She amazes me sometimes at how well she listens!!

If you don't want her on your furniture, she will stay off.  If you invite her up, she will gladly jump up or ask for help getting up if it's a taller piece of furniture.

We can take her anywhere and she is always well behaved.  We take her camping and she loves going for car rides and golf cart rides.

The only issue we have with Phoenix is she doesn't get along with one of our dogs (another female Rottweiler).  She has consistantly shown her displeasure when around dogs her size or bigger.  We have short play / training sessions with Phoenix and the little dogs.  This has been a work in progress to get to the point of allowing contact with them.  Therefore, we feel it's best to adopt her out to a family without any other dogs.

Otherwise she truly is a great dog and will be a wonderful companion to someone looking for just one special dog!!
