Sears's Story...
Sears is a happy-go-lucky guy who doesn't know that he's about to become homeless... again. In 2010 he was surrendered at the county (kill) shelter. He's eartipped but not feral. No one adopted him and his "time was up.” An MCSPCA foster volunteer took Sears home and nursed him through a nasty upper respiratory infection he had picked up at the shelter. That’s when she saw what a sweetheart he is, because even with a “stranger” handling him for meds and subQ fluids, he never got cranky. In fact, he liked to settle into her lap to get his fluids. Sears was adopted by his current owner in 2011. She is now hospitalized with serious health issues.

Sears loves to eat…. is a talker…. enjoys catnip.....snuggles with his person…. and likes other cats. He is perfect about using the litter box, and is even fine with getting his nails trimmed.

UPDATE: Sears went to a temporary foster home when his owner had to be hospitalized. Most cats don't deal well with change and take a while to adjust to new surroundings. Not Sears! His temporary foster only had him for one week and he was already sleeping under the covers with her!! He's now back with his original foster mom and was instantly affectionate with her too - even though he hasn't seen her in a few years. Despite all the upheaval in his life lately, he remains an incredibly sweet, "people cat."

To adopt you must first complete an adoption application and either come to an adoption event or arrange to meet the cat in its foster home. We do not do same day adoptions so, generally, we can only adopt within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sears, a Gaithersburg Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Gaithersburg, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Gaithersburg.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Gaithersburg already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Gaithersburg breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Gaithersburg paves the way for another one to be saved.
