Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Simon came from a small shelter in Kentucky that we have helped for years. He was removed with his buddy Adam from a situation where both dogs were dangerously dehydrated and underweight. They quickly gained weight and now they are both healthy. I have fostered quite a few Hounds and Hound mixes over the years. Simon has the typical sweet, gentle disposition of the other Coonhounds I have fostered. He is happy go lucky and you can't help but laugh at him. He is a tall, leggy dog and if he is mixed with another breed it isn't evident. He is young between 1-2 and has been to the vet, and been neutered.
He doesn't seem to have any food issues despite having been without adequate food in the past. In fact I would say he is more interested in affection and play than food. When he eats it is gentle, and I can remove the bowl. I think he is smart and is in tune with people as he constantly watches me. He lives with 2 other dogs and loves to play with them. I have no cats at this time so I can't tell how he does with them. I have a fenced in yard and a dog door and he figured it out right away. He needs some work on house manners but is quickly learning. It appears to be more about understanding the rules of the house and once he knows, he does it. He rode in the car fine. He is a nice balance of a little bit cautious at first (I am talking just seconds of caution) but then quickly is game to get to know you. I am not thinking he will be much of a guard dog.
I have not crated him but he is confined to the kitchen, mud room and yard when I am not home. He is curious and if something is left out, he will run and play with it (think running through the yard with a mitten throwing it in the air). I don't know about chewing - that seems to be confined to bones and appropriate toys. I think this dog has one of the sweetest temperaments with out being needy that I have had in long time. He understands the other dogs and the hierarchy. If they are grumpy or correct him he seems to shrug it off with no return aggression. He will make a wonderful, loving loyal companion. He is tall and strong with a constant wagging tail so I think he would do better with older children. He will also need another dog to play with or adequate exercise as with most young large dogs.
He walked fine with a gentle lead harness but will need leash work if you are using a regular leash to walk him. He is so HAPPY and quite handsome. Let me know if you are interested in Simon or think you might be a good match for my handsome guy.
