My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ginger : 8yr old yellow spayed female 85 lbs (Needs to lose 7 pounds)

Ginger has been with her previous owners for 4 years. Their son moved in with them 4 years ago and brought Ginger with him. When he moved out he left Ginger with his parents as she was going to have puppies. Now, present day Ginger’s owner needs to find her another home due to family health issues and not being able to give her the home she so deserves.

Ginger was an inside dog for the first 4 years of her life and the last 4 years after her puppies were born she became an outside dog. However, in her new foster home it is apparent she has not forgotten her manners, and perfect lady like behavior. She is respectful of indoor possessions, except for an occasional morning when found on the couch, and will stay indoors resting on her bed, enjoying one of her toys for periods when left alone. On other occasions, she has been left alone outside on her bed on the porch and is perfectly happy and content to wait for your return. She knows the basic commands of sit, stay, down, come and NO.

Her owner has said she is a very loving dog that craves your attention and loves to be petted and sit at your feet. Ginger is indeed a loving dog and one of the sweetest dogs this foster home has had. She is curious, spry girl that loves to please. She loves her walks and, although will pull on the leash in the beginning of the walk as she is so excited; she eventually quiets down with a gentle tug on the leash and a heel command. Because she weighs a little more then what is a healthy normal weight for her, we have slowly increased the length of her walks and are now up to around 2 miles and with careful monitoring of food she has lost several pounds and is continuing to lose. She has already lost 7 lbs.

Ginger loves to swim, which will be great exercise for this girl that needs to lose a few pounds. Less food, treats and some good daily exercise with help Ginger get her girlish figure back. She rides well in the car and is always up for a little ride. Ginger has not been around small children and in her excitement she may knock little ones down. She has always been great with older kids that have come to the home. Ginger will need to go to a home with no cats she has been known to chase them for the fun of it. She does get scared when it is fireworks time, so turn up the music a little louder for her.

Ginger needs a family that will welcome her into the home and make her part of the family. She will need structure, patience, and calm leadership. We will be looking for a home where someone is there part of the day, preferably has had lab experience and can give her guidance, a home where she will be an inside dog, and a family that will be consistent in her training. She is currently located in Mountain View. Ginger is a healthy dog that needs lose a few pounds; she is current on all his shots, has her microchip, heartworm negative.

Please call Rescue Rep Judy T. @ 707-480-8469 if you are interested in adopting this fun girl.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
