My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

KenMarRescue.org

Meet Madrid! Per shelter, 3 yrs, 10 lbs. UTD with shots, chipped + sterilized + collar + leash + harness + care pkg. Crate trained but prefers to sleep on her pet bed. Fed twice at breakfast and then late lunch. Night time feeding with held due to bowel movements in crate.

Affection - She loves belly and ear rubs. She is shy initially but warms up quickly.

Commands/discipline - Seems to know sit but not always. Won’t take much work for it to become reliable. Responds usually to a sharp NO when doing something wrong. She is VERY smart and would benefit from Obedience Training.

Door Darting - She is not yet trustworthy about not darting out of an outside door.

Play - More interested in going on walks and discovering the world around her with the security of a human to accompany her.

Socialization – Plays well w/K9s

Sleep - Sedona does great in a crate lined with a fluffy/cushy bed and linens/blankets so she can “nest.” I cover the crate (plastic or metal, she does fine in both) at night and she knows it’s “lights out” and goes quietly to sleep with no fuss. She is great from her last outing at about 10 pm to 6:30-7 AM, when I normally get up. Because she is fine in a crate, she would probably be fine on an airplane under your seat.

Feeding & Meds - I have been feeding a combo of grain free wet and grain free kibble as much as he wants. I do not feed after 6 pm and give her over 1 hour to have a bowel movement before putting in crate. She is up to date with all shots (including Rabies) and has been given flea treatment and de-worming pills (part of our protocol for preventative wellness. Spayed + Microchipped.

Anxiety - My neighbors tell me she cries for a couple of minutes when I leave and she is outside but stops quickly. If you have a yard/run, recommend, when the weather is good, that she be outside when you are away with water, a bed, a crate filled with comfy blankets for shelter and maybe a bowl of kibble. A worn object with her human’s scent on it (tee, sock, etc.) also serves as comfort when placed in her bedding.

Barking - Only barks for a reason i.e. door bell, mail person, and the like. She is not yappy. She will “call” to you when she sees you leaving for the day but subsides after a few minutes. As with all rescues, they are transitioning out of traumatic experiences.

Behavior - She is very gentle except when she is trying to get around a barrier to her human. She should be supervised around young children or other dogs/pets. She will allow you to touch her everywhere.

Madrid is very sweet, eager to learn and please. Training and maybe Agility Training since she is so attentive and smart! She will develop into a very loyal and loving little girl when she finds her forever home.
