My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lucky!

We were contacted by an animal lover about this girl and we just couldn't say no. Despite her name this young lady had a rough start in life. She was found abandoned in a vacant apartment. She is being take care by some nice people who work at Autocare nearby, she spends her nights and weekends at the garage stock room and during the day she stays at the reception, greeting people and being adorable.None of the employees can take her home but they feed and take good care about her.

Lucky is very human friendly, everyone she meets is her best friend. She greets complete strangers with a wagging tail and a "come see me" bark. She knows her sit, stay, and give paw commands VERY well. She takes treats very gently. She has no toy aggression, you can pet her EVERYWHERE even around her mouth, while she is holding a bone. If you try to touch it but she will turn her head, walk away (no growling), and then she will come right back to you with a wiggly bum. She is such a sweetie.

Her age is unknown, she is young but have had litters before. When she was found in the apartment a month ago she was emaciated but has gained some weight.

Lucky was evaluated by John Truss and Debra Tafler, from Bark Avenue Montreal and the evaluation went well. A home where she is the only dog would be ideal, however, they think that with training she may eventually be able to live with another dog in an experienced home. She's a little timid but warms up fairly quickly. She was handled by both John and Debra (tail pulled, feet, ears, teets touched) and although she wasn't fond of it she did not react aggressively. She is a little skittish if there is a sudden loud noise. She is dog reactive but is easily distracted by treats. If there is a dog in front of her, as well as a treat, she will ignore the dog and fixate on the treat. They don't feel it is "true" dog aggression. Both John and Deb think that she can be trained out of this with desensitization, proper training and rehabilitation.

Lucky hasn't been tested with cats but it's better that she goes to a cat free home just to be safe. She hasn't met any kids either, but if you want to foster/adopt Lucky we can arrange a meeting! We have a feeling she would do well with children.

As for house training she asks to go out but has had accidents during the night when she’s alone. Once she is in a home environment with a routine we are sure she will learn very quickly. We also don't know if she is crate trained. We do know that Lucky is not a barker.

Because of her current situation we don't know if she has separation anxiety. She is fairly good on the leash, she pulls a little but not much, she responds to her handler.

We can't express how much we want to get Lucky out of the garage and into a home. We appreciate everything that the employees are doing for her, but she deserves to live in a home, with a family.
