My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dixon a lovable black lab! He is an adult at 5 years of age but still playful and active with good calm energy in the home. He is cat, dog and people friendly except certain dominant dogs; while he is not the aggressor Dixon is a Big Dog and can easily defend himself against any dominant dog. He just does not like bullies but honestly – who does?? So probably best to not visit any dog parks together because you never ever know what kind of mean doggies are there.

Dixon is a big boy at approximately 70lbs. He is house trained with no destructive behavior and walking on the leash is good but it needs more work. Because he is so big when he decides he is going somewhere you really have no choice but to follow so we currently have a Gentle Leader (Muzzle Leash) for him and he is responding really well but if you are going to be all wishy washy with the leash and lead he will get away from you and run up to the first person he sees and jump on them to give big hello kisses! At lot of people can be put off by seeing a big black doggie running at them so probably Dixon is not best suited with you if you are not a confident doggie walker.

Dixon has already been abandoned 3 times and none his fault: divorce, baby and person injury are the three reasons he has been left behind and pushed aside! Through all of this he has always stayed strong, happy and friendly. The next home has to be a real home with animal loving people committed to him forever. Because he is so big we recommend a home with children over the age of 14 because he can easily knock a little one over unknowingly and hurt them accidentally… that is the last thing Dixon would want to do so we think better safe than sorry!

We would really like a home outside of the city where he can have space and room to safely run and play, no apartments for him while he is not a big barker when he does bark it is LOUD and BOOMING so regular apartment noises may be too much and set him off causing problems for everyone including Sweet Dixon

He is well behaved in the car and shows no signs of being nervous so if you have a drive to do to get to your summer cottage you will have no problems with Dixon. While he is not a big player highly active dog he does like his walks and to play fetch. Mainly he wants to be by your feet doing whatever you are doing… so if you are watching TV he wants to watch with you. Going out to shovel the snow? Dixon is convinced he can help you by running through your snow banks. Tired and feeling a little down Dixon is sure that his head on your lap will cheer you up!
