Darla-UPDATE 3/5's Story...
UPDATE 3/5/08 Darla is undergoing treatment for heartworm but should be on track to travel north at the end of the month. She is doing so well in her foster home and looks forward to finding a forever family. Could it be yours?

1/08 This baby was so sad. Darla came to the shelter in April of 07 with injuries. Darla had two broken rear legs and did not receive treatment at the time, but they are now healed as best they can. They don't seem to bother her at all and she can walk and run without difficulty. She is very friendly according to her foster mom who has had her since November. She is much more trusting now that she knows people can be very good! She loves to get little tidbits of food from her foster mom. She sits very well and is a pretty calm dog overall. Her foster mom says she gets along well with just about everyone and everything! She appears to be about 1 to 1 1/2 years old. Please help her find a permanent home where she knows no one will ever leave her or mistreat her!

This dog is at our partner shelter in Arkansas or in foster care in Arkansas unless otherwise marked as "in Maine" or "In New England".

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Darla-UPDATE 3/5, a kennebunkport Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in kennebunkport, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in kennebunkport.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in kennebunkport already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a kennebunkport breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in kennebunkport paves the way for another one to be saved.
